786 exoplanets

There are 786 exoplanets known to science, that is, planets outside our solar system. Scientists estimate that there might be up to 160 million such planets in our Milky Way Galaxy alone. It is not known, obviously, how many of them – if any! – are habitable and how many – if any! – are actually habited by some forms of life. But with there being so many, the odds are that some of them are. Especially if you, like me, believe that the universe is biophilically fine-tuned.

Which is a roundabout way of saying that you should check out this infographic from xkcd which illustrates both the number and size of aforementioned 786 exoplanets. Click the photo for a closer view. Exciting times, indeed.
